Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta) group session

Meditation isn’t just about focusing on the breath! In this session, we’ll explore loving-kindness meditation (metta) – a practice aimed at developing kindness toward ourselves and others. This form of meditation can enhance mental well-being by softening self-critical attitudes, and it may be especially helpful when mindfulness becomes a tool of performance pressure or emotional avoidance. I will briefly present research on the psychological effects of meditation, especially metta, and offer basic instructions for the practice. We will then try a short guided metta meditation together.

Lecturer

Mgr. David Radoň

I am a psychologist and therapist, working both at the Student Advisory Centre and in my own private practice. I began practicing meditation during my university studies, when I wrote my thesis on the subject. However, I have gained most of my experience through my own meditation practice over the past five years. I have explored various approaches, from Western-style mindfulness to more traditional forms of Buddhist and yoga meditation. My understanding and approach to meditation is also shaped by my therapeutic training in C. R. Rogers' person-centered psychotherapy and counseling. For me, this complements my meditation practice with a strong emphasis on an active and authentic relationship with myself and others, an aspect that I believe can easily be lost in the Western concept of meditation. That is why I decided to focus this year's workshop on a form of meditation that has had a great personal impact on me, namely the conscious development of kindness and warmth towards others and also towards oneself.
